...here are the important information you will need to access your Mac again if you arelocked out of your computer because something went wrong. I hope you will never have to use this document.
PLEASE PRINT THIS DOCUMENT, BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE NO MORE ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER, THIS DOCUMENT WILL BE OUT OF REACH.
First of all:
DON’T PANIC
There are two ways to go around THE BLOCK.
Way #1:
- You forgot your password-key
- You get crashes while booting
Hold down the <shift> key on startup. All extensions will not be loaded, including THE BLOCK. This is the thing you can disable with the 'disable shift-key'-option in THE BLOCK's preferences. If you played with this powerful feature without knowing what you do - bad luck, it will be more complicated then.
Way #2:
- You disabled the shift-key.
You have to boot from an external volume, like Apples system CD or a floppy bootdisk. Please refer to Apple’s documentation if you don’t know how to boot from an external media.
When you booted from another drive, you can throw away the preferences file of THE BLOCK (located inside the preferences folder inside your systemfolder of your local harddisk). With the next restart you can use the default password-key <command> + <tab> followed by a click on the “Shutdown” button.
The second solution will always get you back into your computer. This is the only reason why THE BLOCK is not 100% secure. If you need more security you can use a hardware-lock for the drives of your computer...
